About Aquariums and Us
About the Aquarist
My interest in aquaria began with my grandmother, who seemed to know the names for all fish and plants. My knowledge about fish is self-taught and comes from reading books and experience. I now aquascape for fun and like to research new things about all aquarium plants. I also like to look for new ways to use my plants and for new ideas for making my aquarium even better.

About the Featured Fish: A Fish By Any Other Name . . .
Cichlids were brought to the United States by a French man in the 1800s. Since then, they’ve become ever-popular, so much so that they are New York’s official state fish. Cichlids carry romance with them, yet they are surprisingly sturdy and easy to keep. Cichlids come in many varieties, including climbing fish, tea fish, rose fish, and so on. Cichlids also have meanings associated with their color. For example, pink fish mean grace, yellow fish means joy and friendship, coral fish equals desire, white fish are associated with purity, and red fish, of course, means romantic love.
About Feeding Fish
For best results, fish should be fed before fully hungry. When feeding fish, adjust the tank so that the lighting is in low-light (light will fade your fish) but in a setting containing good water flow. After they are completely fed, change a little bit of water so they’ll keep their position.
